The EU-funded H2020 PROACTIVE project, led by the UIC Security Division, held its 14th consortium meeting on 10-12 January 2023 in Barcelona, Spain. Almost all of the consortium partners were able to attend in-person, but those that could not joined the meeting online.

The main focus of the working meeting was on the results from the latest joint field training exercise between the EU-funded PROACTIVE and eNOTICE projects, which was hosted by the NBC Defence School in Rieti, Italy on 16 November 2022. The exercise was an excellent opportunity for data collection about CBRNe incidents, multi-agency response, and featured a railway scenario. Read more about the exercise here. Data ranging from the observations by the PROACTIVE evaluators, the questionnaires and focus group with the volunteer role play victims, and the observer guides, underwent analysis during the meeting. Furthermore, the consortium partners reviewed critical parts of the exercise evaluation report which will be published at the end of this month.

Additionally, the exercise was used as an opportunity to test the PROACTIVE Mobile App. The results showcasing how the App was used and the usefulness of its features were also shared with project partners. A revised version of the app, taking into account the feedback from exercise participants, was discussed at the consortium meeting and will be tested during the next exercise.

The pre-incident information materials which the project is co-developing with members of the public at large and CBRNe practitioners is reaching the end of its development stage, and the consortium used the progress meeting to finalise certain pictograms and phrasing. The finalised version of the materials will be tested one last time, during the next field exercise.

The meeting was also the opportunity to work on the planning of the third and final joint field exercise, which will take place in May 2023 at Campus Vesta in Ranst, Belgium. The final exercise will be a significantly larger production in terms of number of practitioners, stakeholders, volunteers, and complexity of the scenario. The core planning team used the progress meeting as an opportunity to collect ideas and feedback from all consortium members before their in-person meeting with the exercise hosts, scheduled to take place in February.

Lastly, preparations for the project’s Final Conference also took place with partners sharing many ideas on how to ensure the event’s success. The conference will be a joint conference with project eNOTICE on 13 – 14 June 2023 in Brussels, Belgium. Please save the date!

Many thanks to ETICAS for hosting the meeting in sunny Barcelona.

The next progress meeting will take place on 28-30 March 2023 in Brussels, Belgium and will be an opportunity to meet with the hosts of the 3rd exercise.
