The International Union of Railways (UIC) is conducting a survey to better understand your thoughts and preferences about rail travel and tourism.
Your valuable insights will play a crucial role in shaping the future of sustainable rail travel, making it more enjoyable and better tailored to your needs.
The survey is open until 3 March 2025 and the preliminary results will be shared during the upcoming UIC Sustainability Action Week, beginning on 11 March.
This survey is part of the Future Rail Tourism (FRT) project within UIC TopRail, a global initiative that promotes rail as a sustainable and appealing mode of transport for leisure and tourism. UIC TopRail brings together railway operators and other stakeholders to develop innovative strategies and best practices that enrich the tourist experience through rail. Learn more about UIC TopRail at https://toprail.org/.
Launched in 2024, FRT aims to forecast trends in rail tourism by identifying key factors which influence its growth. It employs Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) to assess and rank quality indicators for tourist-friendly rail services, based on survey data collected from both people who use railways for leisure purposes and those who do not.
The survey will be distributed via academic institutions and UIC networks, however, we also encourage members to help disseminate the survey as widely as possible. We invite the railway community to support this initiative through their networks and media channels to maximise participation. A higher response rate will provide a clearer picture of the current situation, ensuring that our findings accurately reflect the reality of rail tourism today.
